Navigating the Modelling Industry: Tips for Parents of Child Models

Ahoy, parents to children aged between 2-12! We know how busy you are, so this blog will be straight to the point. If you’re keen on your cute kid joining the modelling industry, here are Models Direct’s top tips for navigating the child modelling landscape.

No. 1 Cut through the noise and choose the right agency

Plain and simple! The right agency will represent your child and source the perfect client looking to book your mini-me. We know how tough it already is. There are so many things to remember and keep on top of so we do the hard work for you. Why? We simply love connecting our young talent to well-known brands and companies and making the modelling process much easier than if you did it solo.

No. 2 No need for professional images

The thought of having to fork out quite a bit for a professional photoshoot alongside having to make time to attend it is one less thing to worry about. Our UK-based agency encourages our camera fans to take regular snaps of your junior model to be, yourself. You’ll be able to capture candid moments and much more in your own time and in your own way. (Win-win!)

No. 3 Talk to your child

Let your little one know about their potential journey into the modelling industry in a way they’ll understand best according to their age. Children do like surprises but after a car journey away from home stuck in traffic, meeting new faces and having lights and cameras point their way without any prior notice might just irritate them a wee bit. Speaking as an adult, it’d definitely get our goat not being prepped beforehand so why would it be any different for a youngster?

No. 4 Talk to us!

If in doubt, speak to our dedicated team. You can call, email or even visit our HQ here are Norwich. We’re here to help and support you every step of the way. No question is too trivial for us so don’t worry – just fire away.

No. 5 Don’t stress

One thing we would urge parents to do is, is not to stress if their child hasn’t been booked in a while – whether this is their first Models Direct booking or their fifth, say. What we would highly recommend parents do is to contact us so we can work together and find a way to increase their exposure to our clients (which usually entails updating their ePortfolio), updating their details so that clients are aware of current physical changes and updating yours to ensure our communication with you is constantly open.

We might make suggestions as to how to keep their portfolio versatile by incorporating certain angles and themes. Whichever advice we might have, we will continue to monitor your child’s progress and see how we can oomph their visibility with clients looking for their look.

We’d also like to add that clients choose our models according to what they’re looking for rather than us having that control. Our team helps to put our junior models forward but ultimately it’s down to who the client wants.
