It’s interesting to see how much the modelling industry has evolved positively! The idea of being a model has reshaped over time where people of the world are being represented in a wholesome attitude. No more fitting into a small box, no more strict guidelines to adhere to, and no more rejecting potential talent purely based on ethnicity, body size and shape, thank goodness!
Models Direct is welcoming the strong role that diversity is playing in today’s modelling industry as it continues to develop, flourish and lead to inclusivity of all since we’ve always advocated for real representation of real people in our industry. Times really are changing! We’ll take a look at all the areas that are continuing to rise in representation in this ever-evolving industry.
Representation of ethnicities
Year after year we’re seeing people of all ethnicities coming to the forefront in the modelling industry and across all media. Billboards, posters, bus stops, magazines, and the digital landscape have seen an increase in this representation. Models Direct has always been proud to represent our models of different ethnicities and help them get booked.
Pooja Mur, Winnie Harlow and Fernanda Ly are trendsetting examples of models of different ethnicities.
Age diversity

Younger models are in demand but the same can be said about mature models too. The runways are embracing older models to bridge a gap in the market where the senior population deserve their recognition. They’re bringing their wisdom, life experiences and self-confidence to the main stage, making them incredibly in demand.
Iman, Carmen Dell’Orefice and Yazemeenah Rossi are great examples of mainstream mature models.

Body positivity
Okay, so we’ve written quite a bit about body positivity and how we’ve always welcomed all shapes and sizes, and it still holds! Our agency is always pushing the body positivity movement forward and we’ve seen this rise throughout not just the modelling world but with people’s everyday perception of beauty standards. To be beautiful doesn’t mean being painfully thin, having a thigh gap or abs. It means being comfortable in your body and being proud of it!
Ashley Graham, Tess Holliday and Nadia Aboulhosn are trailblazers in the plus-size industry.
Models of disabilities

Another important area we’ve seen an increase in representation is models with disabilities. They’re taking the industry by storm helping to raise awareness and recognition for their exemplary traits such as determination, self-confidence and courage to break down barriers.
Wendy Crawford, Jamie Brewer and Ellie Goldstein are setting the pace for the world of models with disabilities.
Our agency, Models Direct, is part of this revolution, and we hope to see it continue being an exclusive and inclusive modelling category making waves in the diversity arena.
