Your First Photoshoot: What New Models Should Expect

Wow, so you’ve been booked to front a photoshoot for the first time. Whether you’re an adult male or female model, a senior model or have a baby model, this blog is for you! First off, many congratulations from all of us! Models Direct hopes that you have a wonderful time and that you take away a positive experience with a thirst to enjoy a variety of future bookings.

Next – what you can expect to encounter on a photoshoot and how you can prepare for it which is particularly helpful for a newbie. Our MD team will tell you what you need to know in this blog!

A call from our team

It sounds like a pretty obvious point but it’s crucial. When you get booked for a photoshoot or any other type of modelling work – promotional modelling, lifestyle modelling, catwalk modelling and so on – expect a call from our team. We will fill you in on the details such as the client, their background, what their marketing campaign is about and how you’ll fit into it.

Prepping your outfit

You’ll be informed about what you’ll be wearing on the shoot whether that means you’ll be wearing your own clothes or be provided with the wardrobe. Either way, you’ll have enough time to fish something out. If it’s too expensive to purchase, you can let our team know.

Prepping your skin, hair and makeup for the shoot

You might already have an at-home facial routine to get your skin ready for the big day – perfect. And if you don’t, we would advise this anyway for our models because taking care of your skin as well as your hair is important. As for makeup guidelines, we’ll let you know what’s expected beforehand but in case you forget, your client’s brief will be provided to you which will include this information. Your client might have a makeup artist on set too.

Arrive early

(But not too early either). A good 15 minutes window of getting to your location early will help you have enough time to find your way to the set, catch your breath and find some calmness before the busy shoot.

Be ready for lights, camera and action

The director on set will guide you through your poses and expressions so be ready to follow instructions. However, do expect that the assignment might not run to schedule due to various internal or external reasons.

Breaking up the day with breaks!

Intervals should be expected because you’ll be hard at work. You’ll get a break or two for downtime or something to eat which our client might accommodate for.

It’s a wrap

Once you’ve completed your assignment, you’ll have a chance to leave feedback as will our client for you. We’re always eager to hear how it went for you, whether you were happy or maybe not quite so and how we can put it right for you, moving forward.

You’ll have the chance to see your work once it’s complete and be kept up to date as to when your work will go live!

We hope that this blog helps you know what to expect and how to prep for your first photoshoot. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to our specialist team and we’ll be happy to help.
