Why Brands Choose “Real People” Over Celebrities in Today’s Campaigns

This is a topic Models Direct has been meaning to write about for a while now, especially with the rise of celebrities and influencers showing up all over social media. From a positive perspective, they’re engaging, entertaining, and interesting to follow. They inspire, motivate, and keep their content fresh, and it’s great when fans see them turn up in print and digital campaigns.

However, we’re seeing a wide range of brands choose real people over celebrities in today’s campaigns. It’s quite interesting to see this demand, as most would think that having a famous face would help drive traffic to a company. It’s quite true that it would help, but there are a number of reasons why brands are opting for everyday real people to front their campaign instead of celebs. Here’s what our team has seen:

Real people are relatable. Yes, celebs can be too, but everyday people like me and you tend to live a life minus the showbiz where the paparazzi are pointing cameras at us (unless we’re doing an MD photoshoot!). Audiences can make a real connection with real people because they might be able to identify with them more easily.

Real people bring authenticity to a campaign by being themselves. Instead of having to perhaps create a make-believe life just to be more appealing, they will most likely just be who they are without having to worry about being something they’re not.

Our modelling hub has a lot of everyday people of all ages, genders, body shapes and sizes, and ethnicities.

Some of our newly added models can be found on our Models Direct homepage. If you scroll to the bottom, you’ll see their tiles rotate, showcasing different faces – happy, confident, and ready to be handpicked for new modelling assignments.

Models Direct and our lovely talent

If you already don’t know about our agency and our ethos, well, we’re definitely all about modelling, but we want everyday real people to come forward and sign up with us. We don’t look out for people who are deemed as celebs or influencers, as it doesn’t make us sit up and turn our heads.

Although it’s good to know if our talented people are social and the number of followers, likes, and subscribers they might have, it doesn’t stop us in our tracks. If they don’t have any or many, it doesn’t make us less inclined to onboard them and have them become part of our modelling hub. We’re very proud of *all* of our talent regardless of their social stats. Our MD team is just looking for people who:

Exuberate professionalism

Are open to a variety of modelling gigs

Allow flexibility in work schedules, such as location, start/finish times, who you’ll work alongside, and with which clients

We don’t just have adult models on board; they vary in ages from developing during pregnancy, to newborns, to all the way through to senior citizens. Models Direct also has our pet population at the forefront of our models, regardless of species. We love all animals, and yes, they too do get booked with clients like Coco & Eve and the RSPCA. (We have blogs on these, so head over to this page to get a snippet!)

In addition to this, the different types of models we have also vary as we cater to:

Plus-size modelling

Petite modelling

Body part modelling

Fitness modelling

Fit modelling

Family modelling

Also, our modelling projects cover a range of categories, including promotional modelling, editorial modelling, and commercial modelling. Head over to our booking blogs page, which presents all the types of work we’ve been offering our lucky models who have been selected by clients, and see what they’ve been put to and how they found their modelling assignment.

If you’re thinking of applying, go for it! Or if you know someone or a family who would be great in front of a camera and a filming crew, then speak to them about us! Spread the word and stay in touch with our team.
