Model Discovery Secrets: What Actually Gets You Noticed

Everyone likes to be recognised; recognised for their efforts, and praised for their achievements. You don’t have to be vain or insecure to want to be acknowledged for a job well done.

Being discovered as a model is a thrill. Sometimes it happens at short notice, other times it occurs after months of effort and persistence. How ever you get discovered, it’s always nice to be noticed.

Models wishing to be noticed by our numerous clients might ask how they got discovered. What is it that they have, and how can new models work with top brands just like they have done?

It’s a simple question to answer, but we’d like to make a short “Discovery Mission Statement” first:

Rarely do models get discovered by chance. Some models do get discovered by luck, but not many. Any model dreaming of being noticed on the high street by a fashion agent will have their bubble burst. Sorry, but we just being honest!

Our models were discovered for three main reasons:

  1. They decided that Models Direct was the right modelling employment agency for them. This is important. No one should sign up to an agency without knowing a bit about them and how they operate.
  2. They registered in the right way and followed our tips and advice.
  3. We used our 35 years’ experience to right the right models with the right jobs sent to us by our clients.

When these three combine, a model’s success is always increased.

What can you do to get discovered? Registering with us is a positive start, naturally, but there are other ways to let our clients know you’re taking commercial modelling seriously.

First, don’t go into modelling “blind”, and don’t think of modelling as a whim. Take modelling seriously. You’ll have fun when you’re on set with professional photographers and filmmakers, but you need to get there in the first place. Research our brands, and know how we work. Begin with the basics – what commercial models do is a good starting point.

Next, perfect some common poses. Make sure your face is the centre of attraction. Also, make sure the photos are clear and reflect exactly how you look.

Third, don’t be afraid to ask local companies to model for them – even just for experience. Any sort of live action is great in the long-run – especially for a model’s confidence.

Next, when you’ve settled on an agency (or even more than one), you must let them know if you’ve changed your look by uploading new photos on your portfolio. Even if your look remains unchanged for a few months, uploading fresh images proves you’re not resting on your laurels. The agency and their clients appreciate this.

Additionally, don’t just assume you may be picked as a lone model. If you’re part of a family, or if you have a camera-friendly sibling, let us know as we have opportunities for the whole family – as well as pets.

Give yourself the best chance of being discovered. Don’t rely on fate.

Stick to the basics, think outside the box, and impress us and our clients. We look forward to discovering your talents!
