Modelling & Motherhood: Balancing Career and Family in the Spotlight

Parents can have the best of both worlds: caring for their children and watching them grow up, as well as enjoying work, either as full-time careers, part-time work, or as proud keepers of their homes.  They often lead hectic lives, but there’s always time for fun and enjoyment.

Mums and dads need to navigate the ever-present balancing act of parenthood and work for things to gel nicely. We’re sure most parents reading this will have unlocked the secret to balancing their work commitments with their family life; this blog is to reiterate how modelling is a viable option for any mothers who want to experience the highs of commercial modelling with us. After all, we know from the plethora of valuable feedback that modelling with us can be a part-time hobby that suits thousands of busy individuals.

What with school runs, parent’s evenings, sporting events and everything in between, motherhood can be a very busy – and dare we say it, chaotic – period in a woman’s life. Not that most wouldn’t have it any other way!

The key to being a Models Direct model and caring for a family is knowing that anyone on our books who are chosen by our clients can turn down a booking. There is never any obligation to accept a booking if the assignment date isn’t convenient. All we ask is to let us know so we can tell the client and organise an alternative model.

It’s good to know that modelling with us is centred around the model. We never judge our models should they tell us they’re not available should they be picked. We always simply try to secure them more work whenever their looks are called for. So, please do not worry when you tell us the date in question isn’t suitable for you.

Perhaps the best way to juggle motherhood with any type of part-time work is to schedule some days when you are available. Better still, we’re always on hand in case parents want to inform us of any weeks / days that they’re not available; this will prevent us putting forward models for any assignments that fall on the days models can’t work.

Another viable option might be the popular family modelling route. We have many brands in the hospitality and leisure sectors, as well as in insurance, banking and retail areas. Depending on the assignment, we offer full family assignments, and single parent-with-child combinations. Family modelling is always fun, and most jobs require travelling or staying over on site, which means that you can spend quality time with your children, bond even more on a new experience, and get paid for the pleasure. It’s a win-win situation and is always well received by our modelling families.

In conclusion, mothers (and dads) can – and do – model with us, despite their commitments. Whether it’s picking and choosing individual jobs or working on set together as a family, we know that mums of all ages can be the star of the show in front of the camera.
