We appreciate the time and effort our mature models make to register with us and curate their amazing portfolios to help them get seen by our clients. Once officially registered, the next step could be where a client has selected them for an audition. Congrats!

If you’re a mature model, then this blog is the perfect read for you. (And if you know anyone who is a senior model, then you can share this reading with them too.)
There might be a few (or a lot of) curious questions which pop into your mind. For example, this is the first time I’ve been called for an audition – how do I prepare for it? What do I need to do? What should I wear? Models Direct has listed some tips to help you get prepped particularly if you’ve just got a few days till the audition date! Here are our suggestions based on our experience:
Learn who your client is
This is single-handedly one of the most important things to do! Learn who your client is. Our Models Direct team will no doubt give you a thorough rundown before your date but it’s a good idea to do some background research of your own. If you have any questions, let our expert team know.

Practise poses and expressions
It’s a sensible idea to practice mirror work no matter where you are in your mature modelling career. After all, you’ll be standing in front of real people and following their instructions – this could mean walking across the venue or enacting an expression on cue. It can feel awkward but the more you practise in your own safe space the better you’ll be translating a pose in front of others.
Dress according to the requirements
Ask our team what you’ll be expected to wear alongside hair and makeup requirements so that clients know you’re paying attention and you can follow instructions well, making it a seamless process for them too.

Arrive slightly earlier
It’s never a bad idea to be early (although it is to be late if you’re doing it intentionally!). Turn up at least 10 minutes early to catch your breath and compose yourself before the audition (allow for extra time if you wish!). Being punctual will create a good impression on the industry professionals you’ll be meeting which they’ll be keeping a note of.
Be organised
Make sure you bring along your modelling bag which consists of everything you need for the day ahead. Head over to this blog to see what MD suggests you pop into it and all the important stuff you should bring along with you.
Be prepared to wait
Chances are there will be other models present so be ready to wait. It could take a while for you to showcase your skills and they may request for you to wait till everyone has been seen. Make arrangements so that you can work around your typical schedule to maximise your time and talent at the audition.
Pay attention to directions when you get there
It’s good to be on the ball as it could be a fast-paced day with lots to fit in. Listen attentively to instructions as to where you need to go and what you need to do. Of course, if you skip information by accident, it’s noisy, or you need to clarify something, don’t hesitate to ask!
Network with other professionals
If you’re given the chance, have a chat with industry professionals at the audition to create connections. This will help you build a network with people on the ground who have expert industry knowledge and experience which will be beneficial for your career.
Be open to feedback
After the audition is done, feedback on your performance isn’t always offered either due to the volume of candidates or the speed of recruiting models. If you’d like to find out why you were or weren’t selected, reach out to our team. We’ll be more than happy to find this out for you and let you know! Whether it’s positive or negative, it’ll help you grow as a model.
Preparing for an audition as a mature model can be daunting as you tend to think younger models would be called. We hope that these top tips will help you be audition-ready and enjoy the process! Don’t hesitate to reach out to our team if you have any questions or comments.
