Is Your Portfolio Out of Date? How Often Models and Child Models Should Update Their Photos

To ensure you have the best possible chance of being selected for a modelling assignment your photos should be updated every few months.

With model babies, toddlers and children, it is especially important to refresh photographs on an e-portfolio.

But, why is it so important to ensure your modelling photographs are up to date?

This is because, as your agent, Models Direct has to be sure it is selecting people with a very particular look to offer clients.

We all know how quickly little ones grow and change – but male and female models change too!

Clients ask us for very specific models for their assignments – a 30-year-old woman with long red hair, for example, or a toddler with golden curls and a gummy smile…

In order to shortlist models meeting those requirements for our client to choose from, we browse the e-portfolios of all those on our books.

If we log in and see the portfolio of a 30-year-old woman with long red hair, but her photographs are two years old, then how can we be sure she hasn’t opted for a shorter style or even coloured her hair over the past 24 months?

Likewise, that gorgeous toddler might have lost his curls and grown a few teeth in the past few months!

Deciding when to update photographs, however, does not have to be a big deal.

Here are a few of our suggestions:

*Make a note in your diary to replace your baby, toddler or child’s images every two months – that way you are always covered.

*Everyone should update their photos once we have received finals from any photo shoot they have taken part in – please discuss this with the agent at Models Direct who was your point of contact for the job.

*Take new pictures every time a hairstyle changes in any noticeable way. This might be a different cut or colour. You might be a mature model who has decided to become a natural grey…

*If you start wearing glasses or dental braces all the time or have a facial piercing or tattoo, then you need to take a whole new set of images for your e-portfolio.

*If you undergo any cosmetic surgery, then your photographs all need to reflect this.

*Changing modelling shots with the seasons can be a great way of ensuring pictures always look fresh and of the moment.

*Think about grabbing a few snaps on any special outing, occasion or holiday.

Otherwise, it is simply a matter of keeping on top of your e-portfolio.

Check in every so often to see if you think your photographs really reflect you as you are now.

Ask your partner or a friend to have a look too.

But remember, regardless of whether or not you do still appear the same, we and our clients don’t know that.

The only way we can be completely sure we are considering images of what you or your child truly looks like is to see they have been recently updated.

So get snapping and uploading –  we love nothing more than seeing really recent photos whenever we open an e-portfolio!
