How to Help Your Child Succeed in Modelling: Our Top ePortfolio Tips

There are so many pluses when it comes to child modelling. Let’s recap three of them:

  1. Younger models (2 – 12 years of age) have always been highly sought after by top brands all over the world. Their popularity shows no signs of decreasing.
  2. Both physically and emotionally, children grow at a surprising rate, so their looks and personalities change from year to year. This means that successful child models can pick up a surprisingly large number of jobs offered by different clients.
  3. For older children, modelling can provide essential working experience. Working with professionals (under a parent’s supervision, of course) and getting paid for it can only be beneficial as they approach their teenage years.

With so much in favour for child models, we’re approached by many parents who want the best for their children. We want the best for them, too, so we’ve always made models aware of our handy tips, as well as uploading regular posts on social media. Plus, we’re always available during office hours on the phone at our head office in Norwich.

We want to give parents the best advice for their children to be recommended to our clients, who ultimately make the final decision. Without us as the preferred modelling agency, models would not even be in the running; one of our jobs is to study the job briefs sent to us by clients and then present to them a shortlist of models from which they pick their most suitable ones. Therefore, it’s in every model’s best interest to make sure they give themselves the best chance of appealing to us and our clients.

For parents, one of the most effective ways of elevating their children from potential models to sought-after models is to keep their child’s ePortfolio regularly updated  with fresh, relevant photos.

But just taking random photos probably won’t be as desirable to our clients as bearing these tips in mind:

  1. Clients are interested in more than just head shot photos. Of course, head shots do accurately reflect a child’s look, but some clients look for variety, including different backgrounds and scenarios. So, don’t settle for several photos against bland backgrounds.
  2. Show us your child’s talents in their photos. With so many clients working with us on numerous exciting marketing projects, the job descriptions are very diverse: no jobs are identical. So, dazzle our clients with what your child excels at, be it sporting photos, displaying their musical ability, or photos of them dressing up in school productions.
  3. With families remaining extremely popular as modelling groups, why not add family photos to their ePortfolios with them as the focal point? Family modelling is lucrative – particularly just before the summer and in the run-up to Christmas – so make your child the focal point.
  4. Children love animals. Snap away with them in the company of the family pet for eye-catching images we sure our clients will appreciate.
  5. As they grow, they might be interested in the latest fashions and trends. If this is the case, our retailers and high street brands will love to see them with a view to asking them to appear in their new campaigns.

Continue to think of your child’s portfolio as a celebration of their personality. Keeping it up to date every three or four weeks could ultimately be the difference between them being seen by our clients, and being chosen as a Models Direct child model. Now, wouldn’t that be something to be proud of?
