Modelling Over 50: How to Get Started with Confidence

Pursuing a new skill or hobby can be a bit daunting when you get older. Some of us are raring to learn and grow whilst some of us might be feeling a bit apprehensive to start something new.

This division of the modelling industry is on-demand and if you’re over 40 and over, there are a lot of great opportunities ahead for you. Apply to be a model

The types of work you could be involved in as a senior model are the same as what applies to younger ones. Here’s a brief list of what you can expect to be hired for:

Catalogue modelling – featuring in catalogues for print and digital ads

Commercial & lifestyle modelling – for ads (print and TV), catalogues and magazines depicting real-life scenarios

Catwalk modelling – walking the runway for a fashion event 

Body parts modelling – showcasing a body part for commercial or catalogue modelling

Fitness modelling – representing the sports industry

Fit modelling – not to be mistaken for the above but it’s quite easily done. Fit modelling is about going behind the scenes with a fashion and design company and trying their garments to get the right size using your body as a guide to work with.

One of the great things our agency has seen with mature modelling is that it doesn’t focus so much on body size and shape. Rather it looks at other areas such as personality, on-screen presence, and charisma.

Senior people may not share the same desire to take an image for absolutely everything but may enjoy the odd image here and there of their action pose. And why not, eh? The key is to be comfortable in yourself and enjoy the process of building your portfolio rather than being worried. Clients will love to see you and your personality through your portfolio.

Take care of your mind, body and soul

No matter how busy the world is around you, it’s essential to take a step back and remember that you are important and have the opportunity to touch base with yourself for a refresh or reset. The modelling world is competitive and rejection does happen when a client is seeking to hire a mature model with a specific look in mind. Just remember, it will happen when the time is right. Be patient, keep checking in on your agency and find out ways they can help you reveal your presence.
