Paws, Poses and Personality: How Pets Become Models

Soft, fluffy, cute and furry…

If you love your pet then it’s highly likely they could become a great model!

But it’s not all about how cuddly they are, in fact, almost any creature could become a star…

They just have to have that unique character, look or poise about them – and they have to be engaging.

Think about all the animals you see on screen, up on billboards and on the pages of magazines and newspapers – there are so many of them and they each draw the eye.

And from Pomeranian pups to Polynesian parrots and Siamese cats and to pygmy rabbits, they really are all creatures great and small.

Pet models might be a mammal, a reptile or a bird – they might even be a particularly impressive fish.

They could be feathery, scaly or leathery looking; they could be hairy, bald or have luscious long hair.

The key to deciding whether your furry, four-legged or feathered friend might have what it takes is to think about whether they have that special something about them.

Do they make people smile when they see them?

Do they make people exclaim with interest?

Do they attract attention?

In addition, of course, we need to know that your pet will be comfortable in front of the camera and with unfamiliar people around.

Clients come to us seeking pet models for all sorts of photo and film shoots.

They need them to help promote their pet products and accessories, but also for other advertisements, to bring something different, colourful and enticing.

It isn’t surprising that brands turn to creatures to make their advertisements, packaging and promotions more interesting.

After all, we are a nation of pet lovers and we love to see animals all around us.

According to one survey, there were some 13.5 million dogs and 12.5 million cats living in UK homes in 2024.

And, furthermore, the UK pet population was also estimated to include some 1.3 million indoor birds and one million rabbits.

Pet modelling can be great fun for the owners, as well as the animals and, of course, this kind of part-time work can bring a little extra money in too.

We would love to hear from you if you think your paw-some pet or cuddly creature might be just what we and our clients are looking for.

And if you are unsure, still apply because our professional agents are here to give you guidance.

For example, this is what Alannah told us after an assignment with Pet Lab Co.

“My little French bulldog Dudley had his first professional shoot yesterday for Pet Lab Co thanks to Models Direct.

“The day was an amazing experience and Dudley was on top form.

“Any camera he came across, he looked at and loved being a part of the different shoots.

“When I got the call a couple of weeks ago, I was so overwhelmed and pleased that Dudley had been picked.

“Charlie from the team was amazing and she helped with all my enquiries up to the day.

“The studio was lovely and we had a lovely lunch provided.

“Dudley was given so many treats and it was safe to say he slept well last night after a long eight-hour day.

“I cannot wait for the photos to go live of Dudley in November and I can’t wait for our next assignment.

“Thank you Models Direct, you’re amazing and I can’t wait for Dudley to continue working with you.”
