Plus-size modelling

In commercial modelling, there has always been an emphasis on diversity. It’s a key part of the industry, and it means that we can offer thousands of models the jobs they want.

Without diversity, most of the jobs would be similar, and there wouldn’t be the huge range of opportunities for our models. We probably wouldn’t have the huge number of clients either, all looking for the best models to assist them with exiting marketing assignments. It’s a massive advantage to any type of model seeking the best modelling jobs in the UK.

Plus-size models are a hugely popular category with all sorts of clients. They have been in demand for several years, and they continue to be very important.

An old-fashioned view was that anyone without the “traditional” model looks could never make it in the industry. How times have changed. Even high-end fashion modelling now encompasses almost any body shape and function – from talented individuals with limited physical means to those who didn’t fit the customary mould decades ago. These days, the world has transformed to cater for anyone with the determination to become a model – which is a breath of fresh air.

Plus-size models are not any specific weight. Female plus-size models are generally in the 14+ size range, which is to say a fairly standard size in the UK and many other countries. They are regarded as “fuller figured”, a typical trait of millions of females.

For clients, reflecting a large proportion of a customer base makes sound business sense. Clients are generally businesses, so they need models to advertise brands and services to help make profits. Though city councils aren’t profit-driven organisations, they all have budgets and must use them wisely. We cater for any kind of company that needs commercial models for any kind of marketing or advertising campaigns, and plus-models are just as useful for our clients as other modelling types.

What characteristics do plus-size models need? And what experience do they require as a Models Direct model? More good news – read on…

By definition, plus-size models are a certain dimension. But that’s where the limitations end. The main characteristics are:

1. The ability to being true to yourself. Not pretending to be someone you aren’t really shows on a modelling set. Photographers and shoot organisers will always respect a model’s honesty, which reflects on how they look and how they conduct themselves.

2. Punctuality and organisation. This applies to any models. Treating a modelling assignment like a profession will make jobs that little bit easier.

3. Being confident. Believe in what you’re doing and have faith that you are the best model for the job. After all, our clients have chosen you, not the other way around. They’ve chosen you because they value what you can offer them.

4. Seek to learn. Many Models Direct models are debutants. They gain valuable experience on set working with other models and professional film makers or photographers.

Speaking of experience, any model applying with us does not need any modelling experience. We’re looking for real people with realistic expectations, and with the determination to make their modelling dreams come true.

In short, that’s plus-size modelling summed up nicely: real people with something to offer, having fun and earning a pay cheque in the process.
