For those of you thinking about commercial modelling – and we think there are thousands – expectations can be confusing.
You may be asking yourself any one of these questions:
“What exactly is commercial modelling?”
“How do I become one?”
“What are the common types of modelling jobs available?”
“Do I have the experience to become a commercial model?”
All these questions are perfectly understandable, and we’d think you haven’t thought properly about modelling if these queries hadn’t cropped up at least once.
Before we go into what models can expect with modelling assignments with us, let’s quickly answer the above questions to give newcomers a solid base from which they can proceed in their modelling aspirations.

Question: “What exactly is commercial modelling?”
Answer: Commercial models pose in marketing materials to promote products – usually aimed at the general population. Commercial models relate to people using goods and services, so that consumers can put themselves in the model’s shoes to see how the products / services work. They are required for TV, website and magazine adverts, as well as extras for TV shows and in promotional modelling jobs. Therefore, commercial models are totally different to high-end fashion models seen on catwalks, and there are fewer restrictions for commercial models to succeed.
Question: “How do I become one?”
Answer: By joining a reputable modelling employment agency, whose job is to place the most suitable models with the brands that need them.
Question: “What are the common types of modelling jobs available?”
Answer: Anything and everything. We place models with every clients we work with, which could involve photoshoots with the biggest brands or short films for promotions. Whenever a model is seen in any form of media, we can provide the talent.
“Do I have the experience to become a commercial model?”
Answer: That doesn’t matter. Anyone can be a commercial model with Models Direct, with no experience necessary. We look for enthusiastic people of all backgrounds with the dedication to realise their potential.
So, what can models expect from a Models Direct modelling job?

Once a model has been chosen for a job, our booking team sends models all the necessary information: client’s name, location, date, time of arrival, main point of contact, requirements (e.g. any specific clothing / accessories to bring), whether food is provided etc.
It’s a good time to reiterate to models that they don’t have to accept jobs when we let them know they’ve been chosen; circumstances can change, so we’ll understand if any jobs are declined.
Once a model accepts an assignment, it’s a good idea to spend a few minutes researching the client, and what they specialise in. It’ll help when on set and it’s simply good practice.
On set, models can look forward to the following delights:
Helpful encouragement from professionals working alongside models on behalf of clients (and / or staff working directly for the client). Models are given extra info alongside the brief they’ve already been given and are well looked after by everyone on set. Our clients want all modelling jobs to as smoothly as our models do, so they’re very understanding and supportive. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – it’s expected!
If a model works with other models, we often hear that they’ve struck a friendship, which is always satisfying to know. Modelling can be very sociable, and the chemistry shines through when initial strangers get along so well.

Models can expect a few laughs, too. Yes, all assignments have a professional purpose, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all work and no play!
As well as being enjoyable, our modelling jobs pay well.
We have fantastic relationships with our clients, so we know from their feedback that the planning that goes into every job is key to the day. Once a model arrives on set, they should relax, be professional and attentive, and follow directions from the production staff / photographers.
Check out the plethora of reviews we always look forward to reading. We hope we’ll be reading one of YOURS soon!
