A (typical) day in the life of a Models Direct model on set

All bookings with us are different. That’s because the modelling briefs we receive from top brands demand certain specifications, whether they are a quick one-hour shoot or a job lasting a few days. Every model is different, too, with their own looks and style, which makes assignments even more exciting for casting directors, photographers and film makers.

That said, we thought it’d be beneficial to give potential models a general idea of how a typical day with one of our clients may pan out. It should whet the appetite for those readers looking to secure modelling jobs with us. For the thousands of successful models, it may bring back memories and remind them to keep their portfolios updated to increase the chances of even more work.

Model: Amelia

Client: Morrisons

Models Direct Booking Agent: Gemma

6.45 am. iPhone alarm wakes me up; refreshing night’s sleep. Excited about working with one of the largest retailers in the country.

6.51 am. Have a nice warm shower, brush my teeth.

7.09 am. Get dressed as per Morrison’s instructions: casual and comfortable clothes. Will be wearing a staff shirt on set, complete with name badge – will be posing as a worker, going wild in the aisles!

7.31 am. Make a slow-release energy breakfast: large bowl of porridge with syrup and sliced banana, one slice of toast.

7.49 am. Double check instructions as per Gemma’s email: point of contact on arrival (Jane), photographer’s name (Jamie), address of Morrisons branch etc. Make sure iPhone is fully charged and handbag contains everything I need for the day.

8.01 am. Leave house for the bus.

8.37 am. Arrive early (of course), grateful that the bus was on time.

8.41am. Enter Morrisons and ask for Jane. Lovely lady, who introduces me to Jamie. Offered a coffee and chat before we get down to business.

9.07 am. Jane and Jamie discuss the brief, which I have read twice. Get changed to become a Morrisons member of staff for the next few hours.

9.25am. I’m going to be photographed posing in the aisles, promoting various essentials to let customers know that Morrisons won’t be increasing prices – in fact, some products are cheaper than their rival supermarkets. Which reminds me – I need to get their More Card for even more great deals.

10.17am. Jamie compliments my camera-friendly personality; he thinks I’m a natural. We continue to promote some Morrisons’s essentials for them to pick the best ones to use in promotional materials online.

12.28 pm. What a morning! Jane checks that it went smoothly and offers me a free lunch at their café.

1.17 pm. Suitably nourished, I check back with Jamie, who has been going through his photos on his lunch break. He’s happy, as am I.

1.28pm. The afternoon photo session includes some more promotional items – this time non-consumables. I’m really enjoying the relaxed nature of the shoot, as well as being a Morrisons workers for the day.

2.49 pm. We wrap up the session, with Jamie saying he has more than enough material. When will I be able to see the finished articles on their website and social media?

2.55 pm. Jane thanks me for my time and promises to give 5-star feedback to Gemma and the Models Direct team. Gemma has promised to contact me later to ask how it went, too. Glad that the agency truly wants to know about my day modelling with a top client.

3.19pm. The return bus is also on time! What a day.
