Tips for Parents of Aspiring Child Models

First of all, we’ll assume that parents have complete faith in their child’s abilities and talents to become one of our child models. This is an important first step. Not everyone – child or otherwise – can become a model, and it must always start with the desire to work as a model. Becoming a commercial model shouldn’t be a snap decision. Though we have many registered models who wish to work part-time or one-off assignments, the desire must be evident, and they still need to put in the preparation and research.

If you’re a parent wondering what the best tips are if you have a child with aspirations of the wonderful world of commercial modelling, we have some golden advice that should help you. Few tips are set in stone, but if some are useful for you and your child ahead of any modelling jobs, then this blog will have done its job.

  • Research all modelling employment agencies. Some are “better” than others. Some are genuine, whilst others claim to be – only for them to charge for photos with little intention of ever using them. These “showcase agencies” do not actually seek active employment, so be aware. Go with your instincts.

  • Resist paying for auditions. We charge new models a moderate fee for representation to cover admin fees and to cover the cost of placing aspiring models on our books. After that, we’ll always recommend the best models to clients that really need them.
  • When you fill out your child’s application with us, please read through application FAQs. Your child does NOT need modelling experience, nor do we insist on professionally paid headshot photos for the registration. Two initial headshots are crucial, and these must be clear and taken against a neutral background; they can be taken with a Smartphone.
  • Encourage your child to interact with adults and other children of similar age. Getting accustomed to being around other people of any age grows confidence, and this will be reflected on set of modelling jobs. Parents always accompany their children to our jobs, so a little encouragement from the sidelines never goes amiss.
  • Participating in extra curricular activities is a massive boost for any child’s future. Sport, music or acting are all beneficial for any aspiring child model.
  • Practice at home. Going through certain poses in a comfortable environment is something that many of our child models ask their parents to insist on.
  • Never rest on your laurels. Children are always developing, learning, and experimenting with different looks. When you register with us, please don’t forget to update your child’s online portfolio with recent photos. Any client that is interested in models we recommend to them has access to that model’s portfolio – so make sure it’s as current and as relevant as possible.
  • Avoid make-up. When submitting photos of your child, they must look natural.
  • Have fun, and don’t expect the world from the moment you apply with a modelling employment agency. Being realistic and having patience plays a vital part in keeping your child level-headed. When the time comes, they’ll be ready.

If you think your child could be a model, we have the largest number of clients of any modelling employment agency. They keep coming back to us time and time again, and child models are as popular now as they’ve always been.
