What type of model are you??

As we see London Fashion Week draw to a close today you may be asking yourself; “What is the difference between commercial and fashion models??” Or perhaps you didn’t even realise there was one!

London Fashion Week receives huge amounts of media coverage, so if fashion and beauty are your thing no doubt you will have been following the latest looks, trends and updates on social media direct from the catwalk.

Commercial Model Criteria

The criteria to be a commercial model is very different to that of a fashion model, Models Direct represents commercial models and talent and hopefully this blog will explain a few of the differences.

Commercial models are ‘real people’ who have a good look and often experienced in acting, singing, dancing or another talent, they are used to performing to an audience or portraying a different character. The criteria for commercial models is very varied, clients often require a wide diversity in model looks, size, ethnicity, age and location depending on the product or service they are promoting.

Commercial models are used in promoting everyday products, they are appealing to the majority, so the models sourced need to be relatable to the consumer.

How much do Commercial Models earn??

Earnings can vary depending on many factors, models experience, length of assignment and client budget. A good agent will negotiate the best rate for you – commercial models can expect to earn anything from £150 to £1000’s!

Well said Alex!

“I hope to promote diversity and inclusion as a wheelchair user in more campaigns such as this in the future!” – Alex

Models Direct have been involved with many campaigns and shoots featuring disable models and we hope we can be involved in many more – here’s what our #malemodel Alex had to say after recently working with Heathrow Airport:

Hi, I have just had a fabulous experience on my first assignment with Models Direct, courtesy of Molly at Models Direct and working with Ingenious on behalf of Heathrow Airport.
Natalie met me on arrival, such a lovely lady, offering refreshments and kept me posted on the time frame and set up status of equipment etc. We started promptly at noon, Steve and Magnus, the team responsible for the shots, were great, made me feel relaxed and confident. We had an initial chat then onto some shots before an informal interview whilst being pictured.
The whole experience was simple from start to finish, everywhere was of course accessible, parking was easy, directions and contact info all provided, just very very easy. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and hope to promote diversity and inclusion as a wheelchair user in more campaigns such as this in the future. Many thanks to everyone involved in the selection process, it’s been a privilege  – Thank you!”

The team at Models Direct were recently invited, along with the rest of the world, by Burberry to celebrate the city of London, through three live shows held all at once. Blurring the lines between digital and physical, the famous British fashion brand brought the event from the Hyde Park catwalk to the world, via a live recording which was streamed online.

Models Direct spoke with Christopher Bailey, the Chief Creative Officer of Burberry about the event. He remarked that the last twelve months in London had been incredible, and the shows were a way for the brand to celebrate the ‘distinctively British’ combination of innovation, craft and design found in this city. Bailey went on to say that Burberry wanted people from around the world to share in the experience of the show, to bring a smile to their face, whatever country they happened to be in.

More than 1500 guest attended the Burberry Womenswear, Spring/Summer 2013 show, which was held at a custom built catwalk in the middle of Hyde Park. According to Models Direct, the show featured Florence Brudenell Bruce, Julia Roitfield, Tali Lennox, Suki Waterhouse and Laura Bailey. But for those who were unable to attend, Burberry.com managed to bring all of the facets of the live shows to audiences across the globe.

The team working at Models Direct were able to use their smartphones to watch the shows, and the Spring/Summer collections in more detail than they ever had before. When they visited the brand’s website, they were able to enjoy the Burberry World show section of the site, by connecting through the brand’s Facebook page and unlocking customised content.

In addition to being broadcast online, Models Direct say that the show was also streamed on one of the world’s tallest retails screens, on Regent Street, where approximately 500 people stood and watched the show from outside the Burberry flagship store. On top of this, the three shows were linked across an online social steam, which integrated content in real-time from the event in London to Instagram and Twitter.

by Models Direct

The management team at Models Direct were impressed to hear who would be residing on the judging panel for the WGSN Global Fashion Awards this year. The panel for 2012 is made up of some of the top names in the international fashion industry.

According to Models Direct, the trading and product director for ASOS (one of the largest online fashion stores in the world) Robert Bready, Managing Director of Topshop Mary Homer as well as Lara Bohinc, famed accessory designer, will all be gracing this year’s panel. In addition, Myer department store’s manager Judy Coober, the creative director of the luxury designer Bally, Bora Aksu, Basso & Brooke, Selfridges, FJ Benjamin, Jigsaw and Next will be present.

Models Direct have said that some of the top fashion writers, retailers and commentators from all across the globe will be travelling to the ceremony. The founder of the awards, Lauretta Roberts is said to be exceptionally pleased with the quality of the panel this year, as all of the designers and stylists on it reflect the calibre of the awards themselves. Roberts added that it will be an incredible honour for the winners to have their work deemed to be the best, by such an esteemed judging panel.

Currently, designers can still enter their work for the awards; according to Models Direct, categories include best online store, best design teams in children’s clothes, footwear, menswear and womenswear as well as best designer for men and women’s clothing. The Industry London’s managing director, and judge on this year’s panel, Courtney Blackman, also commented on the awards, remarking that she had been working with the WGSN since the competition first began, and had been thoroughly enjoying the journey. She added that these awards are the most prestigious in the world, and that she was honoured to be invited to be on the panel for 2012. The management team at Models Direct would like to wish all of the entrants to this year’s competition the very best of luck.
